Chocolate Trifle
This trifle is another family favorite. To impress upon you just how good it really is, I'll share a few facts with you. #1 - my sister actually requests that I make this for her birthday instead of a cake. #2 - whenever we bring this to church potlucks (and, mind you, we bring a huge aluminum pan full of it), it is one of the only desserts to get completely devoured in a matter of minutes. #3 - seriously, who wouldn't love something that has chocolate cake + chocolate pudding + Skor toffee bits? Are your tastebuds tingling now?
It will satisfy any chocolate craving and it's so easy to make. Plus, it looks so pretty all layered up in a glass bowl. The only thing to note is that the trifle needs time to set so that everything can meld together. So, if you're going to make this, the best time would be to do it the night before so that it can sit in the fridge overnight. It'll be worth the wait, especially when you take a cold spoonful of it in all its chocolate glory, stick it in your mouth, and pass out in sheer bliss.
Chocolate Trifle
1 box Devil's Food Cake mix
2 large boxes chocolate pudding
2 (8 oz.) tubs Cool Whip
7 Skor bars, chopped into small pieces (or toffee bits will do in a pinch)
chocolate (for grating on top)
Make the chocolate cake as directed on the box and bake in a 9x13 pan. Let cool, then cut into 1 inch cubes. Make the chocolate pudding as directed on the box.
In a large bowl or big pan, make a layer of cake cubes. Layer the cake with some chocolate pudding. Sprinkle some Skor bits on top of the pudding. Cover the Skor bits with a layer of Cool Whip. Repeat the layers until you reach the top of your bowl/pan, the last layer being the Cool Whip. Grate some chocolate over the top layer of Cool Whip to make it look pretty. Chill in the fridge overnight or for at least 6 hours.
